The Fire

The house, gone, forever,
from a reckless fire.
The people, distraught, homeless,
one faulty wire.
Their child, in pain, dying,
too much smoke, she's crying.
She lays in the hospital,
clutching the comforter her grandma made her,
one of the few things not burned.
They force her to eat dry tuna,
she needs food.
She clings to life,
taking it all in.
She knows she'll be in Heaven soon,
she hears them say it.
She looks at her mom and dad,
and gives their hands a squeeze.
Then she's gone, with one little wheeze.
The obituary says she was young,
an innocent soul now in Heaven.
One year later her parents come by,
and brush away the snow piled so high.
They put flowers on her grave,
she was young, innocent, and brave.
